How to configure blocks in Drupal

First lets know about block. What is block?

A block is an essential element of drupal which are displayed in regions of the drupal page. Block module provides this functionality in drupal.

Creating New Block in Drupal

First we have to log-in to our drupal site. In the menu click on Structure >> Blocks >> Add Block . For this new block several fields has to be filled out.

1. Block Title

2. Block Description

3. Block Body

4. Text format

The next thing is Visibility Settings

Pages - You can set the pages in which the block can be displayed.
Content types - You can set the content types in which block will appear
Roles - You can allow or restrict user to see this block
Users - It is an option to show or hide certain blocks

Click on Save block.

Blocks can also be modified. On clicking the configuring block, one can edit the content of the block

In Administer > Structure > Blocks, blocks are placed. Drag and drop option is also provided by this page to assign a block. Checkboxes are provided by the block management screen. On clicking the configure link, configuration screen will appear.

Lets continue with an example of customizing a sidebar block.

Step1: From the structure select block and add new block.

Step 2: Filling up the fields like block title - title that will appear on the page(optional), block description - title on back end, block body - content that has to be displayed, region settings - region where the block has to be appeared, visibility settings - restriction option like whether it has to be on all pages or which all pages it has to appear.

Step 3: Click on save.

Now the block will be saved and appear on the region which u have selected.
